Psychotherapist
OH
Hi there, I'm Jenise! I'm Jenise Harmon, LISW-S, and I’ve been a therapist for over 15 years. I work with teens and adults, and one of my strengths is my ability to authentically connect with the people I help. I feel so fortunate to work in a field I am passionate about—I can’t imagine myself in any other job. Therapy is a team effort. Together, we will identify and work through what brings you into therapy. We will create a plan with clear goals and ways to meet them. Your trauma, history, struggles, or mental illness do not define you, and you do not have to go through this alone. I look forward to talking with you! I earned my Master’s in Social Work from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and my Bachelor’s degree from Luther College. My approach I have training in several therapeutic approaches. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is helpful when we focus on practical skills that can have a quick impact. I help people learn how to communicate better, become aware of their thoughts and feelings, and develop ways to destress and cope with stress. This approach works well for both short-term and long-term therapy. Psychodynamic Therapy explores how your past experiences impact your current struggles. For example, if you weren’t shown kindness and love as a child, it may make it harder for you to provide kindness and love to others, even though you want to. You may find it hard to feel loved. Psychodynamic Therapy uses in-the-moment interactions during sessions to discover new insights about you. Family Systems Therapy helps explore the different parts of yourself. We all experience different sides to who we are. An angry part may appear when you feel wronged, while a younger part might come out when something scares or intimidates you. By working with and listening to these parts, we better understand ourselves and gain more control over our thoughts and feelings.
