Getting to know Jennifer Govea

Hi, I'm Jennifer. I became a therapist after first experiencing therapy as a client myself. I had difficulty finding a good fit and felt I could be an effective therapist. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from California State University, Long Beach. Are you feeling anxious about beginning or resuming therapy? Maybe you fear judgment in sharing your story? I found it exhausting to retell my story each time I started with a new therapist, but eventually, I found a good fit and received the treatment I needed. I use a nonjudgmental stance to optimize healing and create a safe space for personal growth. I will encourage you to be nonjudgmental but accountable with yourself and others while avoiding personalizing issues that do not belong to you. You will be an active participant in your therapy because you are truly the expert in yourself. We will get to know each other before deciding which type of therapy will work best for you, as every person, relationship, and situation is unique. My background includes residential and outpatient settings, with experience in group, individual, family, and couples therapy. I have worked with dual diagnoses involving both addiction and psychiatric conditions. Additionally, I have experience in private practice, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, and outpatient counseling centers.

What should a new client know about working with you?

After our first session together, you can expect an honest assessment and plan for treatment that is tailored especially for you. We will review your goals for treatment and a general timeline for reaching those goals. At the end of each session, we will discuss how the session went for you, where you will have the chance to provide feedback and we will make adjustments as needed. After several sessions together, we will discuss the progress of your treatment and revisit your treatment goals to ensure you are making progress.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Jennifer is very thoughtful on how to guide a session while always making sure my needs are being met. She is also very good at explaining different concepts as well as making it feel like a safe space.
She’s a good listener and sometimes makes referrals to resource materials (books, etc…). She’s also beginning to ask more questions in-depth as she learns my story.
Jenn was a great therapist for me, and I really appreciate her getting me through a good chunk of my post-graduation life. She is honestly an amazing therapist and I wish my insurance still covered her services, but I still take the things she said to mind every day. Thanks a bunch Jenn!
She seems to be open-minded/ understanding but also very direct. She is very knowledgeable and a good listener. She is very personable and authentic. Doesn’t push you to go into trauma/ heavy stuff and allows you to work/process at your speed. She is an amazing trauma-informed therapist!
