Hi there, I'm Jennifer! Hello! My name is Jennifer (Jen) Scholl and I'm a licensed independent social worker. I started in the field way back in 2009, took a break to be a full-time mom, and got back to work when I finished my MSW in 2018. I work with adults and couples. I work with families but adults only. I utilize a person-centered approach. You lead the session and direct what you want to work on, and I will facilitate and support you. I respect your boundaries and will never push you beyond what you are ready to handle. Therapy can be hard, but it shouldn't be traumatic! My approach I am trained in CBT, DBT, person-centered therapy, positive psychology, motivational interviewing, and a variety of family therapy, and couples counseling techniques. My focus I have worked with a wide variety of people from all walks of life. I have particularly specialized in working with neurodivergent and LQBTQIA+ populations. I have also had experience with grief and trauma counseling. My communication style I like to set a calm, supportive environment. I let my clients lead the session and if they need more support or encouragement, I am happy to provide that as well. I prefer to set a client-centered environment because it's not all about me at the end of the day! My journey to mental healthcare I fell into social work accidentally, when I graduated from college during the Great Recession and no place was hiring except for a mental health agency, where I became a case manager. I wound up loving it and changed my whole career. I took a hiatus 3 years later when I became a mom. I went back to school in 2015 to earn my MSW degree and graduated in 2018. The road to getting my degree was hard, as I experienced a personal tragedy during the program. I became a therapist for children in foster care after I graduated, before transitioning to work in a psychiatric crisis center. I also worked as a therapist in a psychiatric hospital during that time.
