As a Licensed Counselor with 30 years of experience, I understand that navigating the emotional needs of children can be daunting for both kids and their families. You are not alone! Is this a phase? Is this "normal?" Seeking support if you are unsure or are concerned about a behavior is a great first step! I am here to help. My approach I provide in-person therapy with children, though I can meet virtually for parent sessions. I have been trained in several modalities, but tend to lean towards Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (for older kids), Child-Centered Play Therapy (for the younger kids), and Parent Management (for kids with specific behavior challenges). My focus I specialize in children ages 4-12, who may struggle with anxiety, depression, life changes, behavior challenges, and social/ relational issues. I believe that for therapy to be successful with a child, you must work as a team with those adults who are with the child the most. My communication style When I am with parents/ guardians, I try to be as honest and direct as possible so that we are all on the same page and working together. This is a collaborative effort. With children, the type of therapy chosen makes a huge difference in my role! My journey to mental healthcare I have always been drawn to work with children, and throughout my working life (from the age of 12 when I started babysitting). I find inspiration in a child's resiliency. There is something hopeful in working with children and families, a sense that I can make a difference: help children and families recognize their own power to heal and grow. My goals for you I believe that setting goals for treatment is another collaborative undertaking. With my youngest clients, this may be done with parents/guardians and other adult input, such as a teacher or pediatrician. With my older clients, I try to include them in the process, encouraging them to understand that we are all on "Team Kid" together.
