Getting to know Jennifer Williamson

Hello, my name is Jennifer Williamson, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Massachusetts Global. I have been in the substance use and mental health field for 10 years, working in residential treatment, outpatient, and community mental health settings. I have a passion for getting to know people’s stories and enjoy traveling alongside them to reach their goals. My approach I use client-centered, Cognitive Behavioral, and Solution-Focused approaches to walk alongside clients as they work toward their goals. I create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment where clients feel truly supported in their journey. My focus I have worked with clients of all ages but most enjoy working with older teens and adults. I have experience with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, substance use, relationship difficulties, parenting challenges, adjustment issues, or those needing emotional support and someone to listen. My communication style I describe my communication style as fun, light-hearted, and calm, while coming from a place of understanding, compassion, and empathy. I tailor the mood and style to best assist the client and what they may be going through in the moment. My journey to mental healthcare I have always been interested in psychology, listening to others, and understanding what makes people think, feel, and act the way they do. I began working in this field to better understand others, including my own family members and myself. I have witnessed family members through severe mental health struggles, hospitalizations, addictions, and traumas. I have also faced my own mental health difficulties and have gone through therapy myself, so I know what it’s like to be on the other side. We all have life struggles, and sometimes we need extra support and someone to listen—that is where my passion lies.
