Getting to know Jennifer Winterton

Hi there, I'm Jennifer! Today is a great day for a change! My name is Jennifer Winterton, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Southern California. I have been practicing for the last 14 years and have worked in a variety of settings including outpatient mental health clinics, inpatient psychiatric units, residential treatment facilities, full-service partnership programs, school settings, and private practice. I have worked with clients of all ages, starting as young as age 4 and continuing through the golden years. Currently, my main client base is adolescents, teens, and adults. My approach to treatment is collaborative—we work as a team. I am client-centered and focus on what the client is trying to gain from treatment rather than what others have prescribed for them. I work with clients to create a safe space where they can process life’s challenges and develop tools and strategies to manage them. I help clients identify barriers to change and find solutions that move them closer to their dreams. While I am an eclectic therapist, my most commonly used theoretical bases are rooted in Attachment Theory, Solution-Focused Therapy, Systems Theory, and Client-Centered Approaches. The clients I typically treat are dealing with life adjustments, stressors, and mood dysregulation. I support those struggling with work, home, and life stress, parenting challenges, depression, anxiety, grief, and loss. With children and adolescents, I focus on stabilizing moods, increasing positive decision-making, and decreasing symptoms of depression and anxiety. In session, I provide a calm, supportive environment. I believe in using humor and realness to connect with clients and ease discomfort.
