Psychotherapist
NC
Hi! My name is Jessica Stevens, but you can call me Niki. I am a North Carolina Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. I earned my Master's in Counseling from Montreat College. My approach to therapy is Rogerian (Person-Centered) along with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I have 6 years of experience working with children and adults in areas of depression, anxiety, anger management, and children who struggle with emotional regulation and attention deficits. My approach My approaches to therapy are Rogerian (Person-Centered), which focuses on the individual in treatment and their own potential, ideas, goals, and motivation. CBT is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. It's most commonly used to treat anxiety and depression but can be useful for other mental and physical health challenges. My focus I have 6 years of experience with children and adults in depression, anxiety, and anger management. I also have 20 years of experience working with children who struggle with emotional regulation and attention deficits. My communication style I am very soft-spoken and bubbly! I am a humanitarian at heart and believe everyone can reach their goals and potential. I provide a safe space where you will feel cared for and heard. My journey to therapy In 2009, I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in Special Education. I then became a special education teacher but was laid off due to education budget cuts in 2011. I have always been fascinated with human behavior and psychology. After the layoff, in the fall of 2011, I began working as a Qualified Professional with children who needed intensive in-home assistance with mental health and behavioral needs. I fell in love with my work. Then, one evening in 2013, a college recruiter came to our office and left pamphlets advertising a Master's in Clinical Mental Health program at a college in our area.
