Getting to know Jessica Hancock

I have been working in community mental health for 14 years, focusing my clinical lens on treating trauma, anxiety, depression, substance use, and Borderline Personality Disorder using DBT, ACT, and Harm Reduction. My goal as your therapist is to support you in developing an authentic relationship with yourself, integrating challenges, and achieving your identified goals for therapy. My approach Self-awareness and mindfulness are key to healing and progress. For this reason, I primarily utilize DBT and ACT in therapy. It is important to me that you feel positive about your relationship with your therapist and confident in building trust. I take time to build rapport and follow your lead. Your expertise in your life is incredibly valuable to the therapeutic process. My focus I enjoy working with clients who are open to learning and utilizing new skills. Therapy is typically only an hour a week, so clients need to practice skills outside of therapy to see progress. If you are coming to therapy, I assume it's because your ways of doing things have not been working. My communication style I am generally a calm and relaxed person. I practice active listening and am also okay with periods of silence. I consider myself to be a more casual therapist in terms of dress. I like to be comfortable so that I can fully focus on my clients and their words. My journey to therapy I began working in community mental health in an administrative role in 2008. I developed an awareness of clinical skills by observing clinicians and counselors prior to obtaining a BA in Psychology. I then pursued a Master's in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University. I have been trained in Trauma-Informed Care, Harm Reduction, DBT, and ACT. My goals for you It is important to me that my clients feel like they are making progress in treatment. Your goals should be in your own words. I can support you in identifying specific action steps to achieve them.
