What should a new client know about working with you?

I always thought my path to becoming a therapist stemmed from a passion for helping others, but as I look back, I realize that is not the only reason; my path has also been about a journey to discover myself, not just as a clinician but as a human. I’m no different from anyone who is sitting across from me (or my screen). The first half of my mental health journey was about denial and the second half — the current half — has been about discovery and empowerment. I use the word “journey” a lot because becoming our best and most healthy selves is a never-ending process of constantly unfolding, experiencing moments in life, and attaching meaning to them. There were significant individuals who were a part of my journey and I look forward to being a part of yours. I began my academic career earning my BA in psychology at SUNY Albany and my MS in mental health counseling at Hunter College. I work predominantly with adolescents and adults. I have worked in numerous settings, including residential with adolescents with trauma and behavioral issues, methadone maintenance treatment, chemical dependency outpatient, inpatient psychiatry, inpatient rehab, and individual counseling with adolescents and adults coping with depression, anxiety, personality disorders, addiction and recovery, trauma, grief and loss, PTSD, and stress disorders as well as those fostering growth and personal development. True story: I have attachment issues with training and certifications. I dive headfirst into any opportunity to learn new skills and approaches. I believe that one approach does not work for everyone, but everyone has an approach that will work for them. I have made it my personal and professional goal to become a therapist with an integrative approach who is able to provide the most individualized therapy for each client. The competencies and approaches I currently utilize include DBT, CBT, narrative therapy, addiction and recovery support, coping with grief and loss, suicide an

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I aim to create a therapeutic space that is as human as possible; I’m a strong believer that growth and change are fostered through a deep and trusting connection between client and clinician (a human connection). Creating a safe and comfortable setting is my first goal. I believe being my authentic self (which can be very humorous, at times) will provide a supportive connection that will drive your therapeutic goals. I will challenge your thoughts, beliefs, values, and perspectives. I will help you learn how to “own your stuff” and guide you in unpacking your life journey as well as give you space to attach meaning to the many moments in life that can be challenging.
