Getting to know Jhanelle Delisser

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of New York. Originally from the island of Jamaica, I migrated to Queens, New York, as a child. Experiencing both city life and island life has been a tremendous experience. I earned my Master’s in Mental Health Counseling at Adelphi University. I have worked on an intensive community treatment team supporting individuals with severe mental illness. I also work as a school counselor and in private practice. My experience continues to teach me more about us as individuals and has helped me integrate effective treatment for all clients. If you have ever experienced feelings of discomfort within yourself about how you have been responding to circumstances in your life—struggles with anxiety, depression, self-confidence, or just stress—I’m here to help you experience transformation and embrace all of who you are. I provide tools to help facilitate your change from where you are now to a more fulfilled life. We all have a story to tell, even in the midst of our struggles. When you share your story, it is the beginning of the healing journey. Being heard and understood is something we all desire. As we build our therapeutic relationship, I will often encourage you to listen and build trust with yourself. It is important to recognize that our body and mind were designed to heal, and our journey is to help you uncover your truest self.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When working with me, you will recognize that I am always encouraging you to learn how to trust your voice. I believe that we all have what we need inside of us to heal and there are times when we just need assistance and support. During the intake process, we will talk about your current stressors and the coping strategies you have employed thus far. The most important part of the process is building trust and creating a plan to help you on your journey to achieving your goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When you initially book through Zocdoc it is for a 15 minute phone consultation. Afterwards we will then schedule your first 60 minute intake session. The following sessions afterwards will be 45 minutes.

This wasn't a session - it was a 15-minute consultation. It wasn't a video conference, it was a phone call and she didn't have availability to meet with me ongoing. This was a little unclear - if I was booking a consultation it should have been made clearer.
