Jian Tan, LPCC

Psychotherapist
CA
My name is Jian Tan, a licensed professional clinical counselor with an active license from the Board of Behavioral Sciences of California. I hold a master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary. I am an accomplished professional with proven experience helping individuals, couples, children, families, and groups. I am a skilled interpersonal communicator, able to facilitate conversation and provide a safe, welcoming environment that encourages participation. My approach I use an eclectic approach to maximize therapeutic outcomes, employing Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Logotherapy, Family Therapy, Play Therapy (online when needed), Sand-tray Therapy (online when needed), and Child-Parent-Relationship Therapy. My focus I work with clients to decrease symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, substance use disorder, spouse/partner relationship distress, parent-child relationship distress, personality disorders, and more. My communication style I use attentive and engaging interpersonal processing to facilitate online video conversations, providing a safe, relaxing, welcoming atmosphere that encourages client engagement. I hope my clients feel accepted, respected, validated, encouraged, supported, empowered, and at times challenged when working with me. My journey to therapy About 15 years ago, I volunteered at a non-profit organization. There, I witnessed or experienced incidents that went unresolved, possibly due to a lack of communication and conflict resolution skills. With good intentions, we counseled people by trial and error—sometimes things improved; sometimes they worsened. Then I met a guest counselor whose story deeply touched me and inspired my path into therapy.
