Hi, my name is JoAnn Scott. My mission as a therapist is to help people develop hope, then discover their best selves during our therapeutic journey. I use individualized therapeutic techniques suited to the challenges you identify as most important. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a master's graduate from San Diego State University with a Master’s in Social Work, a master's Level Registered Addiction Specialist, Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work, and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. My approach I have over 30 years of experience in mental health. For the past 15 years, I have worked as a Licensed Mental Health Clinician at a community-based mental health clinic in San Diego. I have extensive experience with multiple diagnoses, from anxiety and depression to PTSD and Psychosis. I have worked extensively with co-occurring disorders and the connection between drugs, alcohol, and mental health, as well as the effects on families. In the early 2000s, I developed a passion for helping people recover from trauma. I am trained in multiple trauma recovery techniques, including EMDR, the neuroscience behind trauma’s effect on the brain, and techniques to reprogram the brain’s response to past trauma and current triggers. Besides trauma recovery and co-occurring interventions, I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Person Centered Therapy, Psychoeducation, and Mindfulness—all within a bio-psycho-social and environmental framework. My focus At the clinic, I serve individuals with serious and persistent mental health disorders. I specialize in working with those who have functionally impairing coping mechanisms due to incidental, complex, and lifelong trauma.
