“I’ve had a lot of bad experiences trying to get mental health help with therapists that I didn’t feel like truly listened and understood. Joanna stays positive, while also honest. She isn’t pushy and doesn’t tell me what’s wrong with me, but listens and believes my lived experiences. Her concrete, goal-oriented approach makes me feel like I am taking real steps towards managing my mental health.”

Getting to know Joanna Bain

Hello, I am Joanna Bain! I'm a Marriage and Family Therapist committed to helping clients learn how to build healthier relationships. My work focuses on targeting ineffective behaviors, habits, and beliefs around anxiety and depression. I believe in taking a collaborative approach to helping clients reach their goals. I earned my Master's in Counseling from the University of Phoenix, which has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to support a diverse range of clients effectively. My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client I work with. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, as both modalities help me and the client build a shared understanding of their reality and allow us to work together to chart a path forward. I enjoy working with teens, adults, families, and couples of a wide range of ages. I have experience supporting clients with anxiety, depression, personality disorders, self-harm/suicidal ideation, substance/alcohol use, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, developmental disabilities, and more. I also enjoy working with LGBTQ+ clients, including trans clients. My communication style is calm, accommodating, and personable. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything, and I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment. What attracted me to a career as a therapist is the desire to help individuals overcome life obstacles, because we all have them. I believe clients are the true ?experts? in their own lives, and I see myself as a guide and mentor along the way. I like to use humor and be authentic and genuine in the therapy process. My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. Over time, we'll work together to set goals and track your progress.
