“After trying talk therapy twice before with minimal results, I was reluctant to try again but hoping to find a therapist who had the expertise and ability to guide me through some deeper healing and nervous system work. Getting to know Joanna Leigh Osmond

Welcome! I am a depth-psychology and somatic-focused therapist with over 26 years of expertise practicing, teaching, and supervising others. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Catholic University of America. I work with women at every life stage. Clients value my non-pathologizing, heart-of-the-matter, clear, and supportive approach. I use proven tools to help women gain authentic emotional awareness, integrate and understand parts of themselves, heal suffering, and create more clarity and ease in their lives. The work may include trauma recovery, DBT skills, ego parts work (similar to IFS), dreamwork, soul exploring, CBT, ecosomatic therapy, polyvagal theory, mindfulness meditation, nervous system attunement, EMDR for telehealth, and somatic healing. I work with both immediate crises and ongoing issues. Reaching out for support can be challenging-my focus is to make it as easy as possible. Women I work with often seek help with depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma, chronic pain, PTSD, emotional abuse recovery, highly sensitive person needs, grief and loss, and finding deeper life purpose and career concerns. My past career includes clinical professor of social work, college campus therapist, mindfulness-based stress reduction therapist at Duke Center for Living, integrative health center therapist supporting those with chronic stress, pain, and health issues, and years in private practice. Together, we create an environment for deepening your self-understanding, empowerment, and growth. My approach is practical and focused on long-lasting change, based on these premises: you are your own healer; all healing comes from your ability to understand and connect to your own deepest wisdom so you can integrate and understand; and the human spirit is resilient-when given proper attention and tools, you can call in your wholeness and integration. My focus is to make the process of working together as easy as possible, and I hope you will reach out!

What should a new client know about working with you?

In our first session I will listen deeply to what brings you to therapy and we will begin to gather information from your life and history, together. Over time, you will find a deeper confidence and integration of your mind-body-spirit.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

I don't feel judged by her. I think she accepts and understands or tries to understand my point of view. I feel heard. She offers more than one option on how to approach an issue or concern. First time I've felt good about continuing therapy.
