Joanna Vergoth, LCSW, NCPsyA, is a licensed psychotherapist and nationally certified psychoanalyst with 27+ years of experience working with adults navigating complex trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and long-standing relational patterns. Her approach is warm, attuned, and depth-oriented — grounded in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Jungian-informed psychoanalytic principles, and somatic awareness. Joanna helps clients move beyond insight alone, building real tools to regulate emotions, shift deeply held beliefs, and strengthen their relationships. She offers in-person sessions in Chicago and telehealth throughout Illinois. Tides Mental Health provides integrated therapy and psychiatric support under one roof.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My work is collaborative and paced entirely by you. I'll never push you to go somewhere you're not ready to go — and at the same time, I'm an active, engaged presence in our sessions. You can expect warmth, honesty, and a genuine commitment to understanding what you're carrying. I create a space where it's safe to explore the parts of yourself that feel complicated or hard to look at, without judgment. Your sense of safety comes first. We'll build trust over time, and let the work deepen from there. Many of my clients have been doing this work for a while — others are just starting out. Both are welcome here.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our early sessions, I'll spend time getting to know you — your history, your patterns, and what you're hoping for from therapy. We'll talk about what's brought you here and what meaningful change looks like for you. From there, we move into deeper work: exploring the roots of the patterns that may be keeping you stuck, processing unresolved experiences, and developing concrete tools for emotional regulation, boundary-setting, and self-understanding.
