Getting to know Joelle Chorny

Hello and nice to "meet" you! I'm so glad you've stumbled upon my page. I am a NYC-based neurodivergent therapist specializing in helping clients with ADHD, insomnia, trauma, and relationship struggles. I know that life can be difficult to navigate at times, and I'm here to hopefully make that process feel more manageable. My approach involves helping you develop a greater awareness of yourself so that you can make decisions that feel healthy and right for you. I believe that emotions are there to help us understand ourselves better. I therefore try to explore what they might be saying. More than anything else, I strive to create an environment that is safe, open, and nonjudgmental.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe in making therapy a collaborative process. I therefore encourage feedback either during or after sessions, letting me know what is/isn't working for you. I know that immediately opening up to a complete stranger can feel daunting, so I encourage you to speak at your own pace and in accordance with your comfort level. I see clients on a weekly basis, as this frequency allows for the sense of continuity that is necessary for therapy to work.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I firmly believe that no one approach is helpful on its own and so I like to grab from different modalities and shift my therapy style to fit your needs. My approach is rooted in existential analysis, trauma informed care, and at times solution focused. I hope to provide you with a space that feels safe and free of judgement, in which we explore past and present, as well as where in your life you find meaning. For those looking to treat insomnia, I also offer CBT-I sessions.

Joelle is an excellent therapist that I feel confident recommending to anyone seeking therapy. Her approach is professional, yet she still manages to create a warm and inviting environment that puts you at ease. I appreciated her attentiveness and her genuine interest in understanding my experiences. She created a space where I felt safe exploring difficult topics, which I feel is an essential quality in a therapist.
