“John is obviously very passionate about the work he does. He brings his best approaches forward. He is always tuned in fully and remembers important details from conversations even after a lot of time has passed. He spends time thinking about approaches to best help his clients outside the sessions. I found that personally, whenever we discovered a topic we didn't immediately have a step forward for, John would come prepared in the next meeting, proving he had spent time thinking on it. He also starts the meetings with a recap of the last meeting which helps keep continuity. He has also shown to be non judgmental as I’ve shared with him things I have not with anyone else, and he made me feel seen and cared for. I also personally appreciate his knowledge of buddism and spirituality, I personally have an interest in those domains and we are able to use vocabulary from that discipline to better understand my experience. It helps to talk to someone that can speak your language and also give you the bigger picture relevant to you.”

Getting to know Dr. John Carey

I naturally enjoy being present and curious in my interactions with others in my life. As a therapist, I find the process of understanding and empathizing with my clients the most rewarding. My primary training is in psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral approaches to therapy, which I rely on heavily in my work. I also like to incorporate elements of gestalt, transpersonal, and existential approaches at times. I hold a PhD in Transpersonal Psychology from Sofia University, which enriches my perspective and informs my practice. My approach I begin by helping clients identify their own goals and then follow their process using empathic listening and by identifying the deeper dynamics at play to increase insight and clarity. For clients interested, we can also use cognitive behavioral therapy and gestalt techniques to address specific symptoms and thought patterns. When working on relationship issues, I tend to focus on communication skills as well as emotional validation for the client. I also enjoy discussing spiritual or religious matters if they are of concern to the client. My focus My ideal client is anyone who benefits from my approach and whose goals align with what I have to offer. I provide my undivided attention, non-judgmental presence, openness, and analytical insights into their situations. My communication style I use empathic listening and communicate in a non-judgmental manner, offering feedback that helps clients gain awareness of their own process and situation. My tone tends to be gentle, and my demeanor is calm and non-reactive. My journey to therapy I was drawn to psychology by a desire to address suffering in both myself and those I cared about. My strong intellectual curiosity led me to explore personality theory and other aspects of psychology deeply. When I had the chance to work with clients for the first time, I found the process engaging and meaningful, which solidified my commitment to this career.
