John Dias, LMFT

John Dias, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Welcome! I work with adolescents and adults. Working through the lens of the effects of trauma and shame, I have helped these populations to manage and/or alleviate psychological and emotional struggles that result in anxiety, depression, and poor coping skills. I use an integrative approach to find what model suits each client's needs. In doing this, I have helped clients feel more a part of their journey in therapy. Helping them feel more secure and safe in a process that can be scary to some. I love working with all individuals and couples. The primary population I have worked with is adults working in the education system, public agencies, emergency medical services, and the healthcare field.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I prioritize clear, open communication to create a supportive, non-judgmental environment. I practice active listening and will give you opportunities to reflect on your experiences with you as an empathetic partner. If we’re working through something challenging, you can expect me to be calm and patient. My journey to becoming a psychotherapist started when I was working as a paramedic, helping people and children during their most vulnerable states. I realized that providing compassion, understanding, and empathy was a large part of helping to alleviate physical ailments, along with medical interventions. This realization led me to want to help with people's psychological and emotional well-being associated with traumatic events and shame.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I use an integrative approach to find what model suits each client's needs. In doing this, I have helped clients feel more a part of their journey in therapy. Helping them feel more secure and safe in a process that can be scary to some. Our first session will be an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We’ll discuss your background and what brings you to therapy. Therapy is a process, and we’ll continue to build our work together over time. It’s completely normal to feel nervous about your first appointment. We’ll take it one step at a time, and I’m here to guide you through each step of the process.
