Getting to know John Dosta

Hi! My name is John Dosta, and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master?s in Social Work from the University of California, Los Angeles. I do talk therapy and would like to get to know you. I am familiar with veterans, anxiety, depression, divorce, child custody, and family relationships. My approach I prefer the psychodynamic approach to talk therapy, believing that understanding the client deeply is crucial for significant behavioral change. Recognizing that therapy often blends approaches and each client is unique, I am open to incorporating mindfulness, meditation, cognitive restructuring, and problem-solving?elements of Dialectical Behavioral, Cognitive, and Solution-focused therapy. My focus I am most comfortable working with clients facing high-conflict divorce and child custody issues, anxiety and panic disorders, depression, reacclimating from military service, and substance abuse. My communication style I strive to balance practicality and creativity, individuality and freedom of expression. I aim to create a comfortable experience that leaves clients feeling hopeful. Everything in therapy is valuable. Clients find me compassionate and relentlessly positive. My journey to therapy I first considered becoming a therapist in my early 20s. I saw myself as anxious and insecure, having weathered significant trauma at different developmental stages. Wanting to fix myself, I studied psychology in college to understand my issues. I realized I had the temperament to listen and help others. My confidence grew after working for 11 challenging years at the Department of Children and Family Services in Los Angeles County.
