He asks the tough questions that need to be asked. You can’t bullshit him, which is great because I have been able to bullshit most therapists. Don’t see him if you don’t actually want your problems solved from the inside out. Getting to know John Heflin
Mr. Heflin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who earned his Master's in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University. He has worked in the social work and behavioral health field since 1993. He utilizes a cognitive-behavioral treatment approach known as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which aims to increase psychological flexibility through mindfulness, acceptance, values construction, and committed action. His approach helps change the relationship with unpleasant internal experiences-such as thoughts, feelings, memories, and urges-and promotes action in the service of valued living. He is interested in working with individuals aged 16 to 85+ who are struggling with life transitions and obstacles to living a meaningful, purposeful, and engaged life. Throughout his career, he has provided services in both outpatient and inpatient settings, treating a broad range of presenting problems including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. Before moving to Knoxville, he worked as an Addiction Specialist at the Penn State Center for Counseling and Psychological Services.
