John Milward, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm John! As an old man, I have nearly a lifetime of experience. Obviously, while some of that is working in a therapeutic context, I've also experienced working in the business world, I've been married (and divorced), raised children, and have suffered the loss of loved ones. I have traveled a good part of the world and understand the universality of people. I trust the healing ability of people and I believe with the aid of therapeutic intervention, people can find what they need to find peace in their lives. My approach As a therapist, I have been trained in various modalities. I approach the therapeutic relationship as a witnessing of a client's life in the present and also from the wide and deep lens of their complete lives. Every person brings and bears their joys and struggles to this life, there are no exceptions. In a therapy session, I believe the therapist and client are co-travelers on the journey of discovering the deep strengths and truths of ourselves. I employ different therapeutic interventions that most suit the treatment goals. I have been trained in Psychodynamic theory, Solution-based, goal-oriented therapy, and EMDR, and I have a Transpersonal Psychology orientation. My focus I am interested in deeply listening to client as they experience and live through their life challenges and joys. I believe we are all unique beings, each with our own knowledge and strengths. In therapy, using a variety of modalities, we can work towards achieving our goals to enrich our lives, both in the short-term and also in the long-term. Our ultimate goal is that of accessing deeper knowledge of ourselves, of all that we value and love, and living with and sharing that in our lives. My communication style I read once that the deepest love and respect that can be shown to another is to truly listen, in the most "present" way, to them. With a strong orientation in Strength-based therapy, I am listening for a client's proven sense of strength and resilience.
