Getting to know Jose Gutierrez

I am a bilingual (Spanish/English) Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families. I graduated from Antioch University, Los Angeles, with a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy. I help individuals, children, families, and couples dealing with trauma, depression, anxiety, behavioral issues, life transitions, and other debilitating situations. Born and raised in South Los Angeles, I grew up in a low-income neighborhood where psychotherapy and mental health were unfamiliar concepts. My dad would say things like, "boys don't cry" and "act like a man." Coming from a biracial background (Latino/Black), I often felt confused because I physically look Latino. I internalized many stereotypes, and it wasn't until graduate school that I was able to process and fully understand who Jose is.
