Hi there, I'm Joseph Shelton! I am a counselor with over 10 years of experience in the field. I hold a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University and am licensed in professional counseling by the state of Virginia. My practice style is based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with a strong emphasis on coping skills, incorporating meditation and mindfulness components. My approach I use a person-centered cognitive behavioral therapeutic approach, supported by mindfulness and meditation techniques. My focus I have extensive experience working with clients facing various mental health issues and comorbidities, including addiction, substance use concerns, depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and challenges specific to LGBTQIA+ individuals. My communication style I offer unconditional positive regard, encouragement, and stress and mindfulness management. I create an environment of love and support in my counseling sessions. In my opinion and experience, clients involved in mental health care are experts in their own care. My journey to mental healthcare I love people, and as a child, my family faced some difficult experiences with mental health and addiction issues. This inspired me to support others in getting clean, staying sober, and managing mental health concerns. My goals for you I provide worksheets and education about the importance of goal setting to help you continue making progress.
