Joshua Beren, AMFT

Joshua Beren, AMFT

Psychotherapist
1031 Myra Ave, Los Angeles, CA
The provider is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and is currently working under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. Their current employer is Amanda Neiman, LMFT. Being human is both blessing and burden. We are resilient yet also profoundly sensitive. What happens to us - changes us. Hurt hurts, and trauma traumatizes; that is what they do. Some wounds heal cleanly; others become the kind that re-injure a little more easily. Therapy, much like physical therapy, means learning to tend to what hurts with what heals — supporting the natural healing process, strengthening what surrounds our hurts, and gently, honestly learning to work in a new way with the sensitive parts of ourselves. Pain, sadness, fear, and loss are normal and natural parts of life — but they can make us feel profoundly alone. If you've ever felt like no one could possibly understand what you're carrying, I want you to know: that feeling makes sense, and you are not alone. It takes courage to ask for help, and it is an honor to sit with the courageous.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am an integrative therapist grounded in an evidence-based, trauma-informed, philosophically oriented Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) framework. My approach weaves together somatic awareness, mindfulness, CBT, DBT, Narrative therapy, and indigenous shamanic practices — always guided by a genuine awe for what it means to live a life. We will look not just at your experiences, but at what you've learned from them: the beliefs, stories, and patterns formed in response. We'll do that work with both a playful curiosity and deep compassionate care for you, your story, and your values.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe therapy should include safety, agency, compassion, peace, laughter, and relief, as well as honesty, challenge, effort, discomfort, and even grief. I am playful yet direct. I speak with a soft kindness about hard truths. Our work will be collaborative, adaptive, creative, and always centered on what matters most to you — your healing, your self-discovery, your path. My job is to create a safe, compassionate, courageous, and honest space for you to use for your path to heal, learn, and wonder.  If you are seeking support of any kind, I would be honored to work and wonder with you.
