Getting to know Joy Lockett

Joy uses her compassion and down-to-earth nature to create an environment where clients feel safe to be their authentic selves. She understands that seeking change or something different is not an easy process. Joy forms collaborative partnerships with her clients to develop therapeutic goals and a care plan. She employs mindfulness, empathy, and insight to empower clients. Additionally, Joy utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and family systems theory techniques. She works with individuals, couples, and families.
Joy earned her Master of Science in Community Counseling from National Louis University. She has experience working with adults on a psychiatric unit in a hospital and with at-risk youth at a residential treatment facility. Joy also provides grief counseling services and has worked with families within the community. Her interest in family systems theory and grief counseling began during her undergraduate studies at North Central College in Naperville, where she double majored in psychology and sociology.
