Getting to know Joy Welch

Hi there, I'm Joy! Hello! I am Hoy Welch, a Licensed Clinical Therapist with a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Houston. I love helping people identify the problems that hold them back from a happier life. I am a caring and patient listener who pledges to accept all clients where they are while helping them become more of who they want to be. My approach I like to use an array of treatment methods based on science but with a strong humanistic approach. I provide an atmosphere of support, empathy, and trust in which an individual can share their feelings without fear of judgment. My focus I work with adult men and women who seek change, support, and guidance and are willing to work toward change. My communication style I am somewhat structured and somewhat casual in working with clients. I provide ongoing support, resources when needed, ideas to consider, and feedback to reflect on. Together we can create therapy plans and goals. My journey to mental healthcare My mother was an amazing counselor. I admired the impact I saw her make on the individuals and families she worked with. From the age of 14, I began volunteer work in the pediatric unit of a large hospital. I was recognized for my work and writing about my experiences with severely abused children I was able to connect with. From that time on, I was hooked! I knew I wanted to work in a "helping profession." My goals for you Goals are created out of the desire for something in one's life to be different. Goals come from need, want, and purpose. Exploring and learning through therapy can be a framework for one's goals. My first session with you I want every client to expect during a first session to feel comfortable, heard, supported, and validated. Never judged or awkward. And expect to occasionally laugh along the way!
