Getting to know Judith Whitcher

My name is Judy Whitcher, and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in California. I have been licensed here for 3 years and was previously licensed in Arkansas for 13 years. I view therapy as a collaborative process between client and therapist, where we work together to identify the direction therapy should take and move toward those goals as a team. I have experience working with diverse populations, including children, families, school-based settings, community mental health, LGBTQ+ individuals, geriatrics, and those with severe mental illness. I am particularly interested in supporting clients with personality disorders, anxiety, LGBTQ+ related concerns, and women's issues. My approach is flexible and tailored to each client's needs and goals, though I often lean toward a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy framework. This allows us to address negative thinking patterns, gain control over emotions and behaviors, and incorporate relaxation, mindfulness, and empowerment techniques. When working with clients, I take a relaxed and trusting approach, emphasizing honesty and direct communication. I strive to empower clients to move forward, make meaningful changes, and achieve their goals. My journey to becoming a therapist began with a deep curiosity about why our minds work the way they do and why we behave as we do. I have always wanted to help people, especially those who are hurting. Many feel they have lost control over their lives, and I am passionate about helping them regain that control, find happiness, and live life to the fullest.
