Getting to know Julie Barnes

I love empowering others to make positive changes in their lives. I believe therapists play a vital role in providing space for individuals to process their experiences and arrive at the best conclusions based on their own core values. Therapy should be a place where you can feel a range of emotions without judgment and walk away feeling like you've unraveled the complexities of your life. I hold a Bachelor's degree and a Master's in Social Work from the University of Tennessee, which have equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support my clients effectively. That is what I hope to give each client at the end of their session.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am here to help you work towards your goals. I became a therapist because I love helping others first and foremost. Even more that that, I love celebrating progress and watching people find genuine happiness.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

It takes time for us to build relationships and that is the same in therapy! We won't solve all problems in the first session. We will start by getting to know each other and making sure that I am the best fit for you. I will ask you about your top priorities for therapy and your current support system outside of therapy. Therapy is individualized and certainly not cookie cutter. However, we do have evidence based practices that have proven to work and it is my roles as your therapist to be competent in these practices to provide you with the best treatment. I'll walk you through these interventions and the goals for each one. At the end of each session I will provide you with some "homework" and ask you about it at the beginning of each session. This is my way of helping you get the most out of our time. I'll also ask you to rate the session on a scale to ensure the work we've done have been beneficial to you.
