Getting to know Juliette Kurth

Hi! My name is Juliette Kurth, and I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) based in Los Angeles, CA, offering short-term and ongoing Telehealth services statewide. I hold a Master's in Social Work from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor's degree from the State University of New York. My specialty is postpartum mood disorders, including postpartum depression, anxiety, and OCD. I also work with clients struggling with generalized anxiety disorder and depression. My approach is simple: the client holds the answers to solving their difficulties, and the therapist acts as a guide helping the client arrive at their own insights toward change. My approach I work from a client-centered theoretical model, using a nonjudgmental and empathic approach featuring congruence, unconditional positive regard, and empathic understanding. I also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to accept how we deal with difficult circumstances but not let that deter us from making changes to live a life worth living. My focus I work with new moms and clients struggling with postpartum depression, anxiety, and OCD. I also see clients diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and/or depression. My communication style I hold a space that is compassionate, understanding, and respectful. I use active and reflective listening, client-led, collaborative interaction skills including open-ended questions, reflective listening, affirming and reiterating statements that reaffirm their process, and acknowledging ambivalence about the issue. My journey to mental healthcare My journey as a maternal mental health therapist began as the owner of a yoga studio in Los Angeles, specializing in pre- and postnatal yoga, and as a doula for 17 years. I observed the need for more skills and education in this field that, at the time, hadn't been talked about.
