Getting to know Justin Wixson

Are you struggling? I can help you design a life you love! Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, or lack of motivation, or do you know you could be thriving more? If so, therapy can be a powerful tool for positive change. I believe in a collaborative approach to therapy. Think of me as a guide and teammate, working alongside you to uncover your inner strength and potential. I create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can freely express yourself and explore your thoughts and feelings. Therapy is not about having something "wrong" with you. It's about self-discovery, growth, and building the tools you need to live a more fulfilling life. We will challenge limiting beliefs and develop strategies to manage difficult emotions and situations. I hold a Master's degree in Counseling from the State University of New York at New Paltz, which has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support you effectively on your journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Here's what you can expect when working with me: -A warm and welcoming environment. I believe the therapeutic relationship is critical to success. -Focus on the whole you. We'll explore your unique background, values, and goals. -Client-centered approach. Your needs and priorities guide our sessions. -Open and honest communication. I encourage you to express yourself freely without judgment. -Collaborative goal setting. We'll work together to create a roadmap for your progress. -Practical tools and strategies. You'll gain skills to manage emotions, improve relationships, and build resilience.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When I initially meet a new client, I find it helpful to get a full sense of who they are and not initially focus only on why they are seeking therapy. Once the client feels comfortable enough to begin sharing why they are seeking therapy, we will start to integrate how these emotions are affecting their daily lives and work to create strategies for alleviating them and finding different ways to incorporate new behaviors into time alone and time with others (family, relationships, school, work, etc...). In a typical session, we will begin with the time since our last session. Then, we will move on to how their current symptoms affected the time. Afterward, we will shift to developing ways of integrating new emotional and behavioral strategies in the hopes of making the time until our next appointment better, more effective, and more in line with the goals we have set. With that being said, if for any reason a client is full of emotions that they need to share, then we will bypass all of our usual plans and focus solely on these intense emotions for most of the session.
