Getting to know Kaitlynn Murguia

Hello! My name is Kaitlynn Murguia (she/her/hers), and it is wonderful to meet you and share a little bit about myself! I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) in the State of Illinois. I completed my Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) in Nutrition and Dietetics at Benedictine University and went on to earn my Master of Science degree (M.S.) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Addictions from Walden University in 2019. Prior to working as a counselor, I was a Nutritionist providing care in a residential treatment center. I quickly discovered within this work that what I truly loved was guiding and helping people overcome the emotional blocks that so often accompany dietetic issues. I decided to expand my education and have thoroughly loved my decision to pursue mental health counseling. My background in nutrition is one of the many ways that I honor my clients as holistic beings-as I believe in treating the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. I truly believe in the process of self-discovery, empowerment, and healing. I have many areas of interest and specialization within the field of mental health counseling. I have experience working with survivors of trauma; individuals with severe mental illness, including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, eating disorders, and addiction issues; as well as adults with mood disorders, anxiety, or life transition concerns.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Please note, when booking an appointment online through ZocDoc, you are scheduling an initial consultation call that will take approximately 15 minutes. There is no charge for this call, it is to assess if what you are looking for is something NewLeaf provides. Again, the first booking is an initial consult with your assigned clinician and then intake and regular appointments are scheduled during that call. **Same day appointments are not available, but same day consultations are** The most important thing to know about working with me is that I do not believe in "cookie cutter" therapy. I believe in tailoring each session to the needs of each person.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Typically, after you book through ZocDoc, I will contact you to set up a 15 minute consultation to find out more about you and how I can help. After that, we schedule an intake session (approx 55-60 mins) and then we discuss scheduling during that session.
