Karen Derman, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Karen! My name is Karen Derman, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Goddard College. Is your child or teen struggling at home, in school, or in their relationships with others? Does your young adult have difficulty getting and keeping jobs? I can help! My approach I teach parents how they can help their child, teen, or young adult thrive. My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each parent, child, teen, and young adult. I most frequently use relationship therapy to build trust and strengthen the parent-child-parent bond. I also use family therapy to facilitate communication. My communication style I am a good communicator, and my communication style is direct. This helps others feel seen and heard. I want my clients to feel emotionally safe so they can open up and share their lives with me. I am directive but also a great listener. My clients build trust with me quickly as we move forward together. My journey to mental healthcare I had school problems as a child, and school was difficult for me as a result. There was no understanding of ADHD, Autism, or learning differences at that time. I chose to work with this population so others would not suffer like I did. As a therapist, I bring hope and awareness to individuals who struggle with Autism, ADHD, and learning differences. My goals for you My first goal is to get to know you and start building a relationship with you. After working with you and your family for six weeks, I create a treatment plan based on your personal needs and goals. We review the plan together to collaborate on joint goals and outcomes at that time.
