Psychotherapist
TN
Hello, I'm Karen Hall, a licensed clinical social worker with a Master?s in Social Work from the University of Tennessee. I let my clients take the lead in what they want to talk about in therapy. I consider clients to be the experts on themselves and what they want to work on. I like to tell clients their options for whatever they consider important work. My approach I use a lot of cognitive behavioral skills to help talk therapy patients, but also teach coping skills from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy if needed. For family or couples counseling, I rely on systems theory, attachment theory, and a lot of Dr. John Gottman?s material. With trauma, I begin by helping clients identify their triggers and soothing mechanisms first, then reveal options like narrative writing, cognitive processing, EMDR, brain-spotting, or an integrative approach?whichever techniques may be best for them. My focus I truly believe all clients have strengths, gifts, skills, and healing options within them, which creates hope and options they "can do." I have worked extensively with depressed and anxious individuals as well as couples, families, and various children?s issues. I work with teens and children from a family systems approach to help the whole family function better, including foster and adoptive families. While I have helped some of these families with their children?s trauma, I also have experience working with women who have been traumatized as children or adults. My communication style I hope to help clients feel comfortable and safe to start wherever they are and then to express themselves in ways that help them. I like to use a conversational tone and join with clients, encouraging them to let their voice be heard. I am willing to use different modalities like writing, drawing, movement, singing, role plays, empty chair, psychodrama techniques, sculpting clay, scarves, clothing, or other creative means that may be helpful to express, explore, and release emotions.
