Karen Harmon, LPC

Psychotherapist
TX
Hi there! I am Karen Harmon. I am often asked what I specialize in. My answer is always the same—"helping people." I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master’s in Counseling from Wayland Baptist University, and I believe all individuals have the right to live a happy and healthy life. My approach My initial sessions begin with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but I incorporate additional approaches as needed, including Family Systems, Client-Centered, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. My focus I have experience working with clients who suffer from anxiety, depression, mood/thought disorders, personality disorders, addiction, relationship issues, stress, grief, and more. My communication style I provide telehealth services by appointment, offering clients the opportunity to discuss issues in the comfort of their own home. My office is a private space free from distractions, allowing full focus on the client. My journey to mental healthcare My resiliency to overcome trauma drives me to help others. I started college with zero hours after being a stay-at-home mom for 20 years. Two years after starting college, I lost my husband of 24 years in a helicopter crash, leaving me a widowed mom. After completing college, my career began in education as a high school English teacher and then a school counselor. During this time, I recognized the need for mental health advocacy and changed my professional field from education to mental health. My goals for you Goals are set using the SMART method and measured by real-life application and effectiveness. My first session with you The client participates in a psychosocial assessment during the first session to discuss life experiences, beliefs, past and current obstacles, and symptoms they are experiencing.
