“It was my first time and I felt like she really took the time to understand me. I have a hard time showing vulnerability but she made me feel comfortable and was very professional, yet it also felt like I was speaking to a long time friend. I look forward to working with her more.”

Getting to know Karen Quek

Dr. Karen Quek, an experienced mental healthcare professional with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Marital and Family Therapy from Loma Linda University, is a dual-licensed couple and family therapist and professional clinical counselor. My professional goal is to help you empower yourself, move forward from your hurtful past, and create enriching relationships. I work from a family systemic perspective, providing therapy personalized to your unique relational needs. Collaboratively, we will explore the current and past relational, familial, and cultural contexts of your life to examine your strengths as well as your relational impasses. Together, we will develop a therapeutic alliance where you can feel safe to express your thoughts and feelings and further examine what is holding you back from living life more fully. I have over 20 years of extensive clinical and supervisory experience, having worked in various mental health settings including non-profit organizations, educational institutions, churches, and private practice. I appreciate and respect cultural diversity. My clinical experience and innovative research reflect my expertise and interests in individuals, couples, and families from cross-cultural backgrounds. These efforts have resulted in numerous publications and research presentations, including two published books: *Transition and Change in Collectivist Family Life: Strategies for Clinical Practice with Asian Americans* and *Intersectionality in Family Therapy Leaderships: Professional Power, Personal Identities.*
