Hello! I'm Karita, and I've been a therapist since 2002 (that's over 20 years, yikes!). Throughout my career, I've primarily worked with adult substance users and adolescents, helping them navigate their mental health journeys. I hold a PhD in Counseling Psychology and a Master's in Social Work, and I'm a Licensed Independent Social Worker as well as a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor. More recently, my focus has been on supporting adolescent substance users who are dealing with mental health concerns. I also work closely with parents, guiding them on setting boundaries and reinforcing appropriate behavior with effective consequences. My goal is to help anyone find solutions to their problems, manage difficult feelings, and achieve their personal goals. I believe in the power of improved communication skills for both youth and adults, and I enjoy facilitating that growth. In my practice, I use a variety of therapy techniques, including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, rational emotive therapy, Gestalt, and psychodynamic approaches. I tailor my approach to each client's unique needs, doing everything I can to help them reach their treatment goals. Outside of work, I love backpacking in the mountains, traveling, and creating videos of my adventures. I'm always ready for a fun adventure!
