Getting to know Kate McElwain

Hi, I'm Kate. I'm so glad you're here. I am a patient-centered and trauma-informed clinician committed to helping children, teens, and adults who are navigating mental health struggles. My approach is holistic, client-centered, and systems-informed, with a focus on struggles in identity, trauma, and queer issues, along with self-esteem challenges, anxiety, and depression. I am passionate about supporting you on your journey of healing and self-discovery. My practice celebrates neuro-diverse, gender-diverse, racially diverse, and LGBTQIA+ communities.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Time spent working in public policy and advocacy led me to becoming a therapist. This experience fueled my commitment to providing holistic, systems-informed care, allowing me to bring an understanding of the many systems and circumstances that impact patient lives to each session.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our time together, you are always assured a compassionate and collaborative environment tailored to your unique preferences so you grow and heal in the way best suited to your needs. I believe in your expertise in your own life. Sessions utilize a mix of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and narrative therapy to help you explore your inner worlds.
