Getting to know Kate Pompei
Hi, my name is Kate, and I am a Marriage & Family Therapist with a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Central Connecticut State University. I appreciate the MFT approach because it looks systemically at the client, their family, community, friends, and career, and how they affect the client-and how the client affects them as well. To me, this makes a lot more sense than just focusing on the individual.
My approach
I like to be open and flexible to meet the client's needs. I am always happy to adjust my approach if the client needs more or less of anything. The top modalities I use are CBT, Structural Family Therapy, and Relational.
My focus
My ideal client is someone ready to do the work, open to the process, and appreciative of feedback.
My communication style
During a session, I communicate using active listening, meeting the client where they are, practicing acceptance, and seeking clarification when I am unclear. In my listening style, I maintain eye contact, offer encouraging words, and ask relevant questions while appearing warm and non-judgmental.
My journey to therapy
I always knew I wanted to help people from a young age. I started working with kids in the non-profit world and eventually transitioned to working exclusively with adults. While I prefer working with adults, I truly love helping people.
My goals for you
More than anything, I want clients to feel like they are progressing. I like therapeutic goals to be determined collaboratively between myself and the client.
My first session with you
I usually start the first session by learning a little about the person and what they think is important for me to know. I share a bit about myself and my background. More than anything, I aim to build rapport and help the new client feel comfortable.

I waited for 30 minutes and the provider never joined the call. When I contacted the office they could not get ahold of her either. This was a mental health provider and it left me feeling alone and very disappointed

AWFUL! My appointment was cancelled for no reason in the middle of the night the night before! Office would not answer the phone- totally unprofessional! I sincerely hope that whoever is responsible for this needs help one day, and gets completely ghosted by the person who is supposed to provide that service. They should be ashamed of themselves. Do not waste your time.
