Hi there, I'm Kathleen! I know it is not easy to reach out for help when you are feeling vulnerable. I will make this first step as easy as possible by meeting you wherever you are with warmth and compassion. I will be your partner in this journey of self-discovery, healing, and integration, and will craft a treatment process with you that is appropriate to your needs. Anxiety, depression, bipolar mood management, ADHD, grief, life transitions, chronic pain, and illness are areas within my extensive therapy experience. My approach I am anchored in Bowen Family of Origin Family Systems Theory and Therapy. When I hear your story, I begin to see you in the context of all of your relationships, past and present. There may be unresolved multi-generational issues in your family that have created triangles of stuck relationships, emotional cutoffs, or anxiety without an unknown source. If needed, we can do a more extensive Family Genogram detailing your family history of issues passed down to you. Core Beliefs about ourselves are formed in the family. Adverse childhood experiences with emotionally compromised parents, abuse, neglect, and trauma are wired into our brains and become the basis for our negative self-talk. We would turn to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for the tools to unwind these learned patterns of self-talk and behavior. To get immediate relief from anxiety symptoms, I would introduce you to mindfulness and meditation for self-regulation. Since we are an embodied self, I would draw upon some of the techniques of somatic therapy to sensitize you to body signals, also for self-regulation to prevent anxiety attacks or trauma flashbacks. I would bring to you the therapy applications of what we know from neuroscience research, so we have a best practices platform for our therapy together.
