Psychotherapist
CA
Hello! I'm Kathleen Mates-Youngman, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, International Speaker, Author, and Yoga Teacher. I believe we are all works in progress, and that therapy is beneficial at times of crisis or challenge, as well as for general personal growth. I've been married for 39 years, with three adult children and five grandchildren! My journey to mental healthcare From a young age, I had a fascination with human behavior and relationships, as well as a passion for art. I first chose to study Fashion Design and Fine Arts in college, and years later returned to earn my Bachelor's degree from California State University San Marcos and my Master's degree in Psychology from Chapman University. I am a big believer in different chapters in life, and allowing oneself to learn and explore throughout life! My approach I am quite eclectic in my approach, with a foundation of Emotion-Focused Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, and Mindfulness Therapy. My goal is to help clients understand who they are, what they want and need, and what might be getting in the way of achieving that. My focus I specialize in Couples Therapy, Anxiety, Depression, Life Transitions, and Grief. My communication style My communication style is warm, compassionate, open, and interactive. The therapy room-in person or virtual-is a safe, comfortable, non-judgmental space, allowing clients to be open and vulnerable. Together we explore thoughts, feelings, emotional blocks, goals, and dreams. My goals for you I work with clients to explore their goals in therapy and in life and to find a path to achieving them. This involves learning about their life, relationships, current situation, and anything that may be getting in the way of experiencing lives of meaning, joy, and purpose. My first session with you In a first session, I am interested in learning what brought a client to therapy at this time.
