Kathryn Hulse, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
My professional experience as Medical Social Worker and Marriage Family Therapist, along with my personal experiences of loss and life transitions, has improved my understanding of human experiences in adverse environments. The success of my clients, patients, and couples/families is reflected in my ability to think outside the box, be supportive when it comes to change and new ways of thinking, explore self-awareness, and the steps both I and the individual take together. Along with being a therapist, I also have experience with domestic violence, PTSD, anxiety, depression, CBT Seeking Safety, severe psychiatric disabilities, integrating somatic psychotherapy, and expressive therapies. I am well versed at the end of life and the planning that comes with it, such as POLST, Letters of Closure, Eulogies, Advanced Directives, and Simple Wills (California). I am trained in Prolonged Grief Therapy. My approach I try my best to meet the client where they are at. I use a person-centered and integrative approach to all my sessions. My most used modalities are usually CBT, somatic, and role-playing. My focus I do not have a preference for clients to work with. I do tend to gravitate towards couples and grief. My communication style I try to be compassionate and direct. I practice active listening and ask for clarity when needed. I like to make sure the client talks 80% of the time, and I speak 20%. My journey to therapy I began my therapist journey in 2010 when I got a job as a mental health counselor and case manager for homeless adults with severe psychiatric illnesses. I worked at this job for 5 years before deciding to go for my Masters in Depth Psychology marriage family therapy. After graduation, I worked with kids using trauma-based therapy, grief for adults, and for parents/kids who were at the end of their life or had life-limiting illnesses. I am trained in Motivational Interviewing, Seeking Safety, Prolonged Grief, and Crisis Intervention, among many others.
