Katie Kissel, LISW-S

Psychotherapist
OH
Hi there, I'm Katie! I'm Katie Kissel, a licensed clinical social worker providing tele-therapy throughout Ohio. I am very passionate about the therapy I provide, and my ability to connect with clients is an innate skill I have strengthened over the course of my career. I work to build rapport and strong therapeutic alliances with my clients to support the foundational work of therapy. I primarily work with adults facing concerns related to sex and desire changes, gender identity, sexual orientation, sexuality, women's issues, mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, transgender and non-binary identities, kink-affirming and sex-positive perspectives, parenting, existential crises, and more. I focus heavily on building rapport and a therapeutic relationship, as research shows a healthy therapeutic alliance plays a significant role in positive therapy outcomes. My approach I recognize therapy can be serious and heavy, and while I honor and respect the experiences clients share—holding space for serious, heavy, and uncomfortable emotions—I also introduce levity when appropriate. Laughter positively impacts mental and physical wellness and is an effective tool to build rapport and deepen alliances. Generally, I use an eclectic approach, engaging clients with evidence-based interventions that are person-centered and strengths-based. I incorporate modalities such as feminist therapy, CBT, interpersonal therapy, psychoeducation, ACT, bibliotherapy, mindfulness, sex-informed therapy, and DBT. Each client is different, with unique needs for trust and focus areas, so being adaptable and eclectic allows me to tailor therapy to each individual. I earned my bachelor's degree from Mount Vernon Nazarene University, which laid the foundation for my commitment to compassionate, client-centered care.
