Getting to know Kay Rhodes

Kayla has extensive experience working with children and adults of all ages. She has a background in treating trauma-related disorders, depression, anxiety, grief, and ADHD. Kayla has also worked as a behavioral specialist supporting children and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders and their families. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling from California State University, Sacramento, with a concentration in marriage, family, and child counseling. Kayla's clinical work has taken place in non-traditional school and outpatient settings. She has worked in high-intensity environments where she has utilized effective crisis management skills to support clients. She has led parent support groups and participated in many IEP meetings and advocacy. Kayla utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness, DBT tools, and Trauma-Focused CBT. Kayla is passionate about working with and creating a safe space for BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, and other marginalized populations. She understands how being part of a marginalized group can result in barriers to achieving and maintaining optimal mental health. Kayla approaches therapeutic treatment with her clinical foundation while emphasizing client tenacity. She facilitates positive psychology, humor, and therapeutic skills to explore and empower clients by helping them bring insight to already existing values and resiliency, showing how these can be integrated into treatment and inspire client autonomy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I want to empower you to take hold of and guide your own treatment. I will always encourage you to take the education and tools we learn together in sessions, into your daily life; folks who do this tend to see the most progress! I love to give homework IF you want it. I often provide recommendations for podcasts, reading material, support groups etc that I think would be relevant to you and your journey. Ultimately, I'm here for support, encouragement, and learning but this is your time and your journey. My style of practice is to join you as a partner in your journey of mental and emotional wellness. I am mindful of when someone needs a gentle approach and to be held but as we get to know each other, I will challenge you and *nudge* you out of your comfort zone (with love). I use humor frequently in my work and I can promise you, we will laugh together; deciding to start therapy is hard enough and laughter is medicine.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

It was my first time meeting Kayla and already she has made me feel very comfortable with sharing. I look forward to our next meeting.
It’s been a great experience overall. The only reason I scored 9 instead of 10 is because of availability. I was able to get her last opening.
Kayla let’s me talk and at the same time tells why we need to do this particular exercise even I I’m thinking why are you making we say this thing out live , it’s like she hears me and she saying it’s going to work but that’s why I’m here to help you get through it . I can’t explain everything and I’m trying to believe in the process so I keep going. Recently at my last meeting was crying and laughing at the same time don’t even what that mean but I’m here I guess having someone to stop in the middle of your session and give you the time to get yourself back together I gross it’s the power of believing in what you’re doing I don’t know right now but I’m here.
