Getting to know Kayla Lumowah

Hi there, I'm Kayla! My name is Kayla Lumowah, and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with a Master's in Counseling from California State University, San Bernardino. My approach is client-centered and solution-focused. I treat depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, relationship struggles, self-harm, and life transitions. My approach I take a collaborative and compassion-focused style, tailoring my methods to best meet the unique needs of each client. Some of the approaches I use include ACT, CBT, DBT, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Schema Therapy. My focus I work with clients ages 17 and up, specializing in transitional adulthood, typically ages 18-29. My specialty areas include anxiety, depression, self-harm and suicidal ideation, eating disorders, trauma, and relationship challenges. My communication style My communication style is gentle, collaborative, and validating. Being a very client-centered therapist, one of my biggest priorities is creating a safe, comfortable environment and tailoring my approach to meet each client's needs. I work hard to explore and validate the unique experiences clients face and provide psychoeducation when necessary to help clients better understand their challenges. My journey to mental healthcare I began my career as a school counselor, working in a high school supporting students at risk. I found this work extremely rewarding, especially witnessing students overcome hardship to reach their goals. I realized I loved the mental health and connection aspects more than the academic side, which led me to pursue therapy full-time. My goals for you Goal setting with me is a very collaborative process! I love hearing what's most important to clients and engaging with them to create tangible treatment goals we can work toward together.
