“My appointments with Kelly are virtual, and she is punctual. Kelly's knowledge, combined with a genuine care and compassion, make me feel very comfortable in being transparent with her. She offers suggestions that are practical and helpful (eg: journaling, reading materials); these tools compliment the therapeutic work we're doing together. Kelly works with my schedule and doesn't push meeting more often than my comfort level or pocketbook. She is respectful of my faith. She is trustworthy, professional, and sincere. I recommend her to anyone desiring help with processing trauma or simply needing someone to talk to about life.”

Getting to know Kelly Baez

Welcome to a safe space where healing begins and burdens are lifted. As a counselor deeply committed to your well-being, I offer warmth, compassion, and the expertise of extensive training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), CBT, and mindfulness. I specialize in guiding individuals through the journey of trauma recovery, anxiety management, and depression alleviation. I hold a Master of Education in Counseling from Auburn University and a Master's in Administration from Gallaudet University, which enrich my approach to providing thoughtful, effective care. My practice is dedicated to serving diverse populations, including first responders grappling with the weight of their experiences, individuals navigating post-stroke depression and aphasia as well as their caregivers, and anyone seeking solace on their path to healing and resilience. Your story matters, and I am here to help you reclaim your strength, vitality, and peace of mind. I love the opportunity to provide counseling via telehealth, which I have been doing for years-long before the pandemic. I believe in the right to access care, which can be challenging for people in rural areas, those with tight schedules, and those with small children at home. I'll meet you where you are!

What should a new client know about working with you?

Let me start by saying - I am honored and blessed to do the work I do. I love my job! As a counselor, I have a blend of empathy, support, and solution-focus. I am knowledgeable about the effects of anxiety, depression, and trauma on the mind and body and work to make sure you have this information too. This demystifies these daunting experiences empowers you to take meaningful action towards healing. My approach is mindful and non-judgmental. You can anticipate a safe space where you're encouraged to explore your thoughts and feelings. More than a good listener, when it's appropriate, I actively engage with thought-provoking questions about what's going on, fostering insights and personal growth. Ultimately, my goal is to meet you where you are and support you in getting where you want to be. I look forward to talking with you soon!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My intake process is fairly straightforward. Once you schedule an intake: 1. You'll receive a welcome email or call from me within 24 hours. 2. You'll receive a second email from Simple Practice with a link to set up your client portal and fill out the new client forms. 3. **Please note, your new client forms must be completed at least 24 hours prior to your session time. If I don't hear from you before then, your appointment may be cancelled.** 4. Make sure you have Zoom downloaded on your phone, tablet, or computer. Zoom allows you to set up a "practice meeting" to make sure your settings are good to go. Let me know if you have any questions though - I'm happy to help any way I can. I look forward to talking with you!! Once we begin sessions, my approach is two-fold. In the first session, I'll have some questions and I'd like to hear more about what's bringing you into counseling. From there we will talk about your goals and discuss next steps. In general, in the shorter-term, I want to make sure you've got some skills and strategies to feel better fast. In the longer term, we will work on the deeper issues so that you can live a full life again. I tend to give assignments each week so that you can take action on your goals, but this is not required.

I don't work with insurances but I can help verify if you have out-of-network benefits.
