Getting to know Kelly Fisher

Hi, my name is Kelly Fisher, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s in Social Work from the University of North Carolina and over 20 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families on a variety of issues related to grief and loss, anxiety, depression, adjustment challenges, and life transitions. Having worked in both hospice and hospital settings, I am deeply aware of the realities clients and families face as they endure serious or chronic illness, prognosis, anticipatory loss, and grief or bereavement. My hope is to help clients express their emotions, process their losses, and sensitively find resilience in their new normal. I use a strength-based and action-oriented approach, incorporating CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative, and Compassion-focused interventions to enhance self-awareness, expression, and acceptance. However, I place the utmost importance on the client-therapist relationship to foster a safe space where we can work together. I believe in the power of telling our story, reflecting on our truths, and creating a safe environment to challenge beliefs or narratives that may be hindering growth. I approach all my work with empathy and attentiveness to the client’s needs, while also exploring their past challenges and how those experiences may impact their current situation. Much of my work has focused on individuals navigating the hardships of grief and loss. Yet grief and loss can also arise from other life contexts such as divorce, illness or injury, failed dreams, infertility, parenting challenges, family estrangement, retirement, sudden job loss, and relocation. These experiences are equally important to honor, and individuals can benefit greatly from working through a therapeutic process. Together, we navigate feelings of sadness, shock, emptiness, guilt, loneliness, anxiety, hopelessness, and anger while searching for strategies and behaviors that breathe life amid emotional pain.
