Getting to know Kelly Mayer
Hello, I'm Kelly. Ever feel like you are stuck in the middle of the woods without a compass or a map to help guide you out? We all may feel like this at times, whether we are a parent trying our best to help guide and teach our children, or the child, trying to navigate their world between home life, school life, and extracurriculars, all while going through the stages of development. I can help provide a compass and/or a map to help support you and guide your child through the woods of life.
I graduated from The Ohio State University in 2011 with a Master's in Social Work. I am now a Licensed Independent Social Worker with supervisory designation (LISWS). With 19 years of experience working in community-based counseling settings, as well as school settings, I have had the privilege of assisting children and adolescents through various life adjustments, anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, and other social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. I also work closely with parents/guardians and school personnel to promote the child's growth during their treatment process.
My focus is on children and adolescents, utilizing techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and motivational interviewing, all within a strengths-based approach. I am trained in the ARC (attachment, self-regulation, and competency) framework. Building a non-biased, positive rapport with the child and their families is at the core of my practice. Connecting thoughts, feelings, and actions is an important part of change, and I love empowering the child and their families, helping them connect the dots, and collectively witnessing their growth and progress.
