Kelly Rathmann, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Kelly! My name is Kelly, and I am a licensed clinical social worker. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Smith College and my Bachelor’s from the University of California, Santa Cruz. For over a decade, I have worked with individuals of all ages to support clients as they navigate life changes and process past traumas and difficult family and relationship dynamics. My approach My training is grounded in a Psychodynamic-Relational orientation. This means I am interested in how clients make meaning of their lives and how we relate to each other. It is important to me that clients feel safe in the therapeutic relationship. I see myself as a witness, guide, and mirror to help clients feel supported and seen. My focus I typically work with adults, young adults, and older teens (15-19). I often treat anxiety, including mild OCD, depression, trauma, inner critic/negative self-perception, perfectionism, ADHD/focus issues, and life-cycle transitions. I work well with clients who are willing to self-reflect and seek change. My communication style My tone in sessions depends on the needs of the client, and I aim to attune accurately to each individual. However, I strive to create an environment of warmth, safety, humor, and deep listening. My clients and I often find metaphor and symbolism helpful in finding a shared understanding of what they are working through. Clients experience me as curious and expressive, rather than the “blank slate” therapist we sometimes imagine. My journey to mental healthcare I knew when I was a teenager in my first Psychology class that I wanted to be a therapist. Even in middle school, you could find me in the psychology section of the bookstore. The inner workings of people have always fascinated me, and it was clear this would be my path. I also had transformative experiences as a young teen with my first therapist, and this, combined with my endless curiosity about people, drove my desire to become a therapist.
