Getting to know Kenika Holloway

Hello, I'm Dr. Kenika. Thanks for wanting to get to know me because I want to get to know you too. Well, to start, I got into the counseling profession because in high school I found classmates and strangers would naturally tell me their problems. Back then, I just listened because I did not have much life experience or knowledge about theories. So I dismissed the idea of helping people because I did not think I was being much help by 'just listening.' However, since that time, I have learned to understand and respect the power of listening, and I have had a few birthdays and gained life experiences along the way. Additionally, I earned two degrees in counseling from Mercer University to be better equipped to help you. I truly believe how we think influences who we are and how we act. I also believe people can change if they can 1) admit the need and 2) be willing to let go of the old, push through fears, and make room for something different. Can you think of a time when your thoughts influenced your behavior? Does the idea of change keep you paralyzed, doing the same thing over and over again?
