Getting to know Keri Baker

I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Tampa, FL, and I specialize in adults who are exhausted by the inner critic - the one that picks apart their body, second-guesses every food choice, and whispers that they're not doing enough, not good enough, not small enough. Most of my clients have spent years following everyone else's rules about how to eat, how to look, and how to live. They've tried everything. They've done the work of shrinking themselves in every sense of the word - and they're done. Some come to me specifically for their relationship with food and their body. Some come because their self-esteem has been running on empty for so long they can't remember what it felt like to actually like themselves. Some come because they've fallen through the cracks - not sick enough for a treatment center, but absolutely not fine either, and they know it. I also work with parents navigating picky eating and ARFID. Whatever brings someone in, the thread is usually the same: the inner critic has been in the driver's seat for too long. I get it because I've lived it. I spent about twenty years with a terrible relationship with food and my body before finding my way out. I know firsthand what it costs to spend your whole life trying to shrink yourself - physically, emotionally, and in every other way. My practice is explicitly LGBTQIA+ affirming, fat-positive, and neurodivergent-friendly. My office in North Tampa has snacks, fidgets, flexible seating, rainbow decor, and zero judgment. If you've ever felt dismissed, unseen, or like you were too much - this is a different kind of place. The goal is that you walk in and take a breath and think, okay, I belong here. This is a safe space. You don't need a diagnosis to deserve real support. Virtual throughout Florida and Vermont. In-person in Carrollwood, North Tampa. If you're ready to quiet the critic and start living a life that actually feels like yours, I'd love to talk.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am not a blank-slate therapist. I bring my whole self into the room - my history, my sense of humor (and likelihood of swearing), my own ongoing recovery from diet culture, and my genuine investment in the people I work with. I remember what you tell me. I check in for real. Nothing you say is too much, too weird, or TMI. The inner critic tends to be loud in a lot of my clients - and one of the things I hear most is that therapy has always felt like one more place to perform being okay. That's not what this is. You can come in mid-spiral. You can say the ugly thing. You can be a mess. I'm not going to flinch, and I'm not going to hand you a coping skill and call it a day. Between-session text support is included - not therapy, but real human contact when you need it. In-person sessions are in Carrollwood, North Tampa. Virtual sessions run exactly the same way, just through a screen. In person: shoes-off is encouraged. Lying on the couch is fine. There are snacks. The fidgets are not just for clients - I use them too. If any of this sounds like what you've been looking for, I'd love to connect.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is mostly me getting to know you: what's brought you in, what you've tried, what's felt hard, what you actually want. I ask a lot of questions and I listen carefully. I'm not filling out a checklist; I'm trying to understand your whole picture. From there, we build something that fits you. I draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Brainspotting, and Intuitive Eating - but I'm not rigidly following a protocol. The way we work follows the person, not the other way around. You also get a choice in what we do and how we do it. A lot of my work involves helping clients understand their internal system: the parts of them that are scared, protective, exhausted, or running the show without permission. IFS (Internal Family Systems) gives us a language for that. ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy) helps us get clear on what your actual values are, not the ones you inherited, but the ones that live in your gut. Brainspotting helps us get to what's stuck in the body and can't always be reached through talking alone. If food and body image are part of what brings you in, we'll work on that too - through an anti-diet, weight-neutral lens. The goal is never body change. It's a life that actually feels like yours. Sessions are 50 minutes, and can happen at whatever weekly pace is best for you. I also offer therapy intensives (3 hours, half-day or full-day) for folks who want to go deeper, faster.
